Paul Stevens is an agent with the Donald Maass Literary Agency. Before joining DMLA, he worked as an editor for 15 years, primarily at Tor Books, where he edited science fiction, fantasy, and mystery. Paul has worked with authors such as Alex Bledsoe, Marie Brennan, Robert Brockway and Michael Livingston. Today, Paul represents Jeremy Finley, Agnes Gomillion, Sean Grigsby, and Elle Andrews Patt, among others.
Paul is seeking science fiction; fantasy; mystery and suspense, preferably with speculative elements; and humor, both fiction and nonfiction.
Publishing by the Numbers
In this workshop, Paul discusses the financial side of publishing: what an advance is, how royalties are calculated, what are reserves against returns, and the numbers publishers use to make publishing decisions, such as profit and loss statements.
