"Chart your Course"
7th Annual Florida
Writers Conference
November 14th - 16th, 2008

When placing your hotel reservations, be sure to ask for the FWA Conference discount.

Join us for an inspiring weekend of writers helping writers.

The theme of the 7th Annual Florida Writers Conference is “Chart Your Course”.  Success in the publishing world depends on sharing information, learning new skills, understanding publishing requirements, and polishing your writing. Every year, the Florida Writers Association proves that "writers helping writers" is not merely a slogan by providing members an opportunity to learn these things at our conference.

Besides attending workshops, participants can also meet with publishing industry professionals to pitch their work, submit a query, discuss book marketing, and much more.  This year we are providing more resources than ever to help writers on their journey.

We've also worked hard to provide you with more value for your dollar. Our new venue is centrally located in Lake Mary/North Orlando. We will be the only conference at this Marriott hotel.  This year your paid attendance will include all sessions and meals from Friday morning at 9 am until noon on Sunday, for an incredibly low cost of only $249 for early bird registration.  Don't miss out on this great weekend of fellowship and learning.

Keynote Speakers

Saturday - Eliot Kleinberg

Veteran journalist and author Eliot Kleinberg has written about the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane, America's second deadliest natural disaster ever, but also has done two books called "Weird Florida."  How can someone write about such emotional extremes?  Easy.  It's Florida.  Does a writer have a better state as a source of material?  Depressing, hilarious, bizarre, but always exciting.  Eliot will provide a nutty trip through crazy Florida, tell how he has managed to make a career writing about it, and tell how you can take advantage of being a Florida writer, even if you don't write specifically about Florida.

Sunday - Hope Clark

"You are Your Own Compass"

The writing journey is yours to chart - not your spouse's, not your child's, not your boss' - just yours.  How tweaking your attitude's compass empowers you to explode with the confidence, satisfaction and pure joy of choosing to be a writer.

Conference Bookstore

To sell your books at the FWA Conference Bookstore,  complete and mail this form before 10/27/08.

If you’ve published a book or want to network with people in the know about publishing, the FWA Conference Bookstore is the place to be.

Books by conference faculty and FWA members will be available for purchase, and several authors will be on hand to autograph their books. An added bonus: often authors are more than willing to talk with browsers and buyers and share what they’ve learned on the road to publication.
